A Voice from the Eastern Door

Akwesasne Mohawk Police Services Host Police Week for the Community

Akwesasne Mohawk Police Services held a variety of events from Monday, May 15th to Friday, May 19th, 2017 in honor of National Police week. Their week kicked off with a barbeque and kickball game at the St. Regis Recreation Center where AMPS teamed up with a group of local children to play a fun, exciting, and safe game of kickball. The next day the police force teamed up again to play kickball against some students at AMS during school hours. The following day there was a torch run which is held to raise awareness for the Special Olympics, and the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Services were more than happy to be included in this event supported by the Ontario Law Enforcement. That evening the police services held a movie night in their boardroom for local families to come out and enjoy an evening of fun together. Snacks were provided for all, while they viewed the popular new film Zootopia.

To conclude the week of events, the officers held a meet and greet on Friday afternoon with coffee and hot chocolate which invited the community to come in and spend some time getting to know the officers that work to keep our community safe. This event was a great way to take a step back from all the seriousness that surrounds law enforcement and really get to know the officers that work in our area. It brings a real sense of unity amongst the community and allows us to feel more comfortable and safe in our community knowing we can trust and rely on the authoritative figures making sure they keep our community the best it can be.
