A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Sunday May 28th, 2017 the annual Memorial Day parade took place in Hogansburg at 12 p.m. sharp. The parade started at Mill Street and went all the way to the American Legion on Route 37. The parade is a big event, when families bring their children out to enjoy the floats and get some free candy. This year was no different, it started off with a salute to all who have served for their country. The parade was led by the veterans from the area. There was many different groups and individuals involved in the parade. Some of the floats were made by groups like the St. Regis Dance Club, Akwesasne Attack Lacrosse team, Akwesasne TV, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, Brass Horse Pizzeria, Haudenosaunee Nationals and Miss Indian World also made an appearance. While many groups did not have a float, they did walk in the parade with great pride. There was also cash prizes for most original, best band, youth group, most patriotic float, best vehicle and honorarium with the theme being "Uniting Families to Honour & Remember Our Fallen."
