Call For Entries in New Ganondagan Hodinöhsö:ni' Art Show, July 22-23 in Victor, NY

Victor, NY— For the first time ever, Friends of Ganondagan is hosting a juried Hodinöhsö:ni’ Art Show at the Seneca Art & Culture Center for cash prizes, exhibition and purchase during its 26th annual Native American Dance & Music Festival, July 22-23, 2017. Any enrolled member of a Haudenosaunee nation is eligible to apply with proof of tribal enrollment or Haudenosaunee descent, regardless of current place of residence.

More than $4,000 in cash prizes may be awarded in the four divisions by a panel of jurors: Best of Show Award ($1,000), First Prize in each division ($500), Second Prize ($250) and Third Prize ($100).

Artists may submit in one of four divisions:

• Beadwork: Any object made using beads of glass, metal shell, stone, wood, bone as the important design elements. Including but not limited to: necklaces, clothing, bags, moccasins, headdresses, wampum belts, straps, sashes, jewelry etc.

• Basketry: Objects woven by hand in natural materials like ash splint, cornhusk, basswood, hickory bark, etc. Can also include objects woven from modern materials if the artist provides a statement explaining their process and design choice.

• Traditional Arts: Includes objects considered traditional to Haudenosaunee people that do not fall into the other divisions, i.e. lacrosse sticks, snowsnakes, water drums, pipes, quillwork, moosehair embroidery or tufting, carved spoons or bowls, bark containers, pottery, etc.

• Fine Art: Includes, but not necessarily limited to, painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, film and video, photography, and installation art.

Artwork photo submission and $10 application fee must be submitted with completed entry forms by a firm deadline of June 18. Each artist can submit to only one division, but may have up to three entries in that division. Each piece of artwork submitted must have been created within the last 2 years. All entries in the Hodinöhsö:ni’ Art Show must be for sale. Friends of Ganondagan has the right of first refusal. Any special instructions for presentation should be detailed in photos or drawings.

“The Friends of Ganondagan is committed to promoting contemporary Haudenosaunee artists and their work,” said Friends Program Director Jeanette Miller. “We’re also interested in acquiring the best examples of what our artists are producing today, and know that our festival visitors will be thrilled at this new addition!”

An artist may enter up to three pieces on an application for an additional $10 per piece. Notification of acceptance or rejection of work is mailed or emailed by June 23.
