A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Salmon River Boys Basketball 12U - AAU squad came in to the North Country Shootout (Brooke Lyon Remembrance) Tournament and defended their Championship Title from 2016.
On Friday night, the Boys defeated a talented Chateaugay squad by 20 and just a few hours later took down an 12 U Malone squad, 83-46. On Saturday evening, they faced an AAU team from Hermon-Dekalb and took care of business right off in the first half and posted a 25 point win.
Sunday evening Championship game pitted them against Harrisville who had defeated the NC Fusion and Madrid Waddington teams. Salmon got off to a great start building a double digit lead but Harrisville came clawing back to close it to 2 points with a few seconds in the first half. With 3 seconds left, Harrisville drained a half - court shot to take the lead into halftime. Salmon regrouped and took it to the Pirates under the basket using their size to get baskets inside the paint and get to the free throw line. Harrisville, as they always do, came back to make it a 2 point back and forth game for the final minutes and then tied it with a layup with 12 seconds left. Salmon came down the court and looked for the game winner with a long three but fell short sending the game into OT. Salmon controlled the 1 minute OT and got inside to get a bucket to go up by 2. Harrisville, with plenty of time, worked the ball well but defensive pressure by SR caused a turnover and then Salmon was fouled. SR made 1 of 2 from the line and Harrisville came roaring back and shot a three to tie the game again, but this time was too far left and off the rim securing Salmon River with the Championship.
