A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Early Years Science Fair is an annual event that takes place in all three AMBE schools. It includes students in K-4 and K-5 classes, and every year a different topic is chosen to focus the projects around. This year's topic was dinosaurs, which introduced the students to the science of paleontology. The children were able to learn about fossilization, and how it is investigated, as well as being introduced to new terms such as sediment, rock, and fossil. Along with the dinosaur's physical structure, the children were also able to learn about dinosaur behaviors, such as predator versus scavenger. The students were able to create their own individual projects based on the facts and knowledge they learned in their classes. They were then able to present their projects in the school's gymnasium. This event made it a priority to include family participation and contribution as part of the project. Students were able to engage in exploration of the natural world, while also having their families included in their educational journey. This yearly event is a fantastic way to spark an interest of science in the students, and to continue to make learning a fun and productive experience for not only students, but the teachers and families involved as well. The students enjoyed being able to read, draw, and write about dinosaurs, and look forward to their next adventure in the educational process.
