AMPS Chief Swamp Replaced

On Monday, March 6, 2016, Indian Time formally requested confirmation that the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service Chief of Police Jerry Swamp had been fired. We asked the MCA Communications Office if Chief Swamp was terminated, and if so, when, who presented the termination, i.e. Mohawk Council or the Police Commission. In addition, we asked who is the acting interim chief of police, as well as, will this position be posted.

In response, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Communication Department released the following press statement:

MCA ANNOUNCES NEW ACTING CHIEF OF POLICE

(Ennisko:wa /March 8, 2017) The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) is advising the community that the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service’s Chief of Police Jerel (Jerry) Swamp is no longer with the MCA, effective March 3, 2017. MCA would like to thank him for his years of service to the community and police department.

Lee Ann O’Brien has been named Acting Chief of Police.
