A Voice from the Eastern Door
Entrepreneurial college students, high school students, and transitioning veterans are invited to apply to present at the annual North Country Regional Business Plan Competition at Clarkson University on Friday, April 7.
Clarkson’s Reh Center for Entrepreneurship will host the event in Clarkson’s Student Center (#15 on the map at http://www.clarkson.edu/about/clarkson_map.pdf).
College student teams must fall into one of six categories: Information Technology / Software, Social Entrepreneurship / Non-Profit, Clean Technology, Advanced Technology, Products and Services.
Prizes for the college tracks will be $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place. The top two college student teams in each category will advance to the New York Business Plan Competition in Albany, N.Y.
A high school track is available for students in grades nine through 12 who live in the North Country region and either run their own business or work on a business plan in the classroom. While this track does not move on to the statewide competition, students are eligible to win both cash prizes and scholarship money to Clarkson.
Prizes for the high school track will be $500 and a $4,000 per year scholarship to Clarkson for first place, $300 and a $2,000 per year scholarship to Clarkson for second place, and a $1,000 per year scholarship to Clarkson for third place.
For the first time, the North Country Regional Business Plan Competition is offering a transitioning veterans track for veterans who are starting their own business. Clarkson is helping to provide growth and pitch coaching assistance prior to the competition as well as post-competition assistance to encourage veterans to start-up and grow their businesses in the North Country. While this track does not move on to the statewide competition, veterans are eligible to win cash prizes or space in Clarkson’s Peyton Hall Business Incubator.
Prizes for the transitioning veterans track will be $2,000 or incubator space for one year for first place, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place.
Each team will have 10 minutes to present and five minutes to answer questions from the judges.
Applications are due by March 31 at http://www.clarkson.edu/bplan.
Sponsorship and judging opportunities are still available.
Members of the community are welcome to attend the competition. Please call 315-268-4350 or email Assistant Director of the Reh Center for Entrepreneurship Ashley Sweeney at [email protected] for details.
