A Voice from the Eastern Door
The two Akwesasne based clubs had their third meeting of the Cornwall Indoor Soccer season last weekend with the Stars winning this round 2-1.
Kelby Mitchell started the scoring for the Stars in the first quarter. Both teams had great chances to go ahead or tie.
In the second quarter Amanda King of the Lady Devils tied the game as she had a foot race against Stars goalie Diane Lazore. King sidestepped the netminder and got one past her to tie the match.
Near the midway point of the final half Tameka Thompson of the Stars carried the ball from center field up the middle and scored the game-winning goal.
This was the third meeting of the season with both previous games ending in ties. Their fourth and final meeting of the year before playoffs is February 26.
If those playoffs had started today both teams would be playing each other in the first round as 2nd place meets 3rd and that winner plays first place for the Championship. The Stars are in second place and the Lady Devils are in third in their division.
Last week the Stars defeated the Glengary Gaels 3-1. Calandra Thompson scored twice in that win with Sheryl Lazore adding one.
The Lady Devils also won defeating Dr. Bosse Dental 2-0. Amanda King and Jenna Prieur shared the goals.
