The Massena girls varsity basketball team pulled ahead of Salmon River on Jan. 13 20-12 at halftime and never looked back, outscoring them 21-19 in the third and 13-7 in the fourth quarter for a 54-38 win.

Meanwhile, the girls hockey team tied with Potsdam and basketball team fell to Salmon River after defeating Potsdam.

Lexis Jacobs contributed four points to the Jan. 13 girls basketball winning effort on their home court. Sydnee Carroll led Massena with 17 points. Novaleigh LeGrow scored 12, Octavia Viskovich eight, Paige Perry six, Al'lainya Dumas four and Alyssa Eubank two.

Lauren Martin led Salmon River with 15 points. Dava Thompson netted nine, Jill Benedict eight, Wahsantiio four, Tiffany Connors two and Nidia Dearmayero one.

On Jan. 11 at Massena Arena, the girls hockey team tied with Salmon River 2-2 in overtime. Claire Tyo netted the opening goal with 51 seconds left in the first period, assisted by Abby Johnson. Gabi Jones tied it for Potsdam 1:21 into the middle stanza after taking a pass from Mattie Tremper. Katy Underwood tied for Massena 12:39 into the second period, assisted by Hannah Chilton and Kylie Letham. Tremper scored the game's last goal 1:10 later with the assist going to Alex Quinn. Kyrsten Stone made 32 saves for Massena. Taylor Razis blocked 19 shots for Potsdam.

The boys basketball team downed Potsdam 87-70 on Jan. 9 but fell to Salmon River 47-40 three nights later.

The boys hockey team's Jan. 10 game against Malone was postponed.
