A Voice from the Eastern Door
"Turnovers on poor passing choices got the best of us" according to Salmon River girls' varsity coach, Liz Durfee. The visiting lady Wildcats defeated the Shamrocks by a score of 58-34.
Gouverneur got out of the gate quickly, scoring 23 points in the first quarter to lead 40-9 at half time. "Sitting back against a high pressure team like Gouverneur isn't going to help our cause" commented coach Durfee. "In the second half we settled down and handled the press better and that caused us to get a better flow, but a little too late". The lady Shamrocks held off the Wildcats to just 18 points in the second half and put through 25 points in a determined comeback attempt.
Lauren Martin led the offensive attack for the Shamrocks with 14 points including a three pointer while teammate Jill Benedict tossed through eight points. Nidia Dearmayero, Dava Thompson, Wahsontiio and Tatyana Papineau all contributed two points apiece to the Salmon River effort.
