On WORLD AIDS DAY a radio contest was presented to the community by CKON and supported by the Community Health Program.
Five questions were presented through the day and 5 community members answered successfully!
They were each given a $25 gift card from Tim Horton’s.
Our winners were Leah Delormier, Joanna Jackson, Taylor Cole, Inez Cook, and Meena Cook! Congratulations!!!!

The 5 questions were:
1) What does having HIV do to the body?
Answer:
The HIV virus attacks the body’s immune system, so you are more vulnerable to several diseases.
2) How is HIV transmitted?
Answer:
- Having unprotected sex with an infected person
-Through sharing needles and syringes or unsterilized tattoo/piercing equipment
-From mother to child during pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding
3) You can have HIV without knowing it. So you need to be tested. Where would you go?
Answer:
Your doctor, nurse practitioner or a HIV test site, such as Community Health where a rapid HIV test can be done with results in 20-30 min. The number is 613-575-2341 ext. 3220 and ask for a nurse.
4) AIDS stands for ACQUIRED IMMUNO DEFICIENCY SYNDROME. When does a client receive an AIDS diagnosis?
Answer:
AIDS refers to the most advanced stages of HIV infection. They receive the AIDS diagnosis when their immune system is at its lowest. They are more prone to certain infections and cancers.
5) Name 3 ways you cannot pass HIV on.
Answer:
Hugs or kisses, coughs or sneezes, swimming pools, bed sheets or towels, forks, spoons, or cups, donating blood, insects or animals.
