A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Wednesday, December 14th, the Community Health and Social Education group joined together to put on an adult craft night. While they have had craft nights for the children, this is the first time they decided to host one for the adults in the community. Various tables were set up with different crafts to make at each, sponsored by different groups within the community. Some of the crafts to make included sugar scrub which was sponsored by the Akwesasne Chemical Dependency Prevention Program, Christmas vases and homemade bath salts which both were sponsored by Akwesasne Child and Family Services, wampum bead crafts sponsored by Wholistic Health and Wellness, and Candle holders sponsored by community member Leona Barnes. The idea to hold a craft night for adults came about because it was a way to give adults in our community more downtime for relaxation. The crafts could also be made as gifts to give to loved ones this holiday season, which could save money and time from going out to shop in the hustle and bustle of the stores. The goal of bringing these groups together is to unite community organizations and programs to provide activities for all ages within our community. The plan of the Community Health and Social Education group is to hold an activity every month, whether it is for children, adults, or people of any age.
