Gridmen, Swimmers from Massena and Salmon River Receive All-Northern Recognition

Several football players and swimmers from Salmon River and Massena received 2016 All-Northern honors.

Michael Gardner from the Massena varsity football squadron was named Defensive MVP for the All-Northern Athletic Conference. His teammates Montana Pierce, Cedric Maurer, Josh Cameron, Michael Brown, and Nathaniel Bressard also made First Team.

Zachary Ward from Massena Central received Second Team honors.

Cody Peets was named to the Outstanding Sportsmanship Team.

Academic All-NAC recognition went to Eddie Blair, Vivian Fernandes, Ian Gray, Peets, Merrick Taraska and Ward.

Others receiving First Team honors include Nathan Welch from Franklin Academy and Potsdam’s Brandon Buffham, Carter Mason, Garrett Mattimore, John Burkum and RJ Hassett.

Ian Maneely from FA and Cameron Talcott from Potsdam also made Second Team.

Outstanding Sportsmanship Team recognition also went to Joseph Benware from FA and Andrew Butler from Potsdam.

Other Academic All-NAC players include Nicholas Boyea, Max Brower, Evan Keegan, Matthew Marlow, Jordan Scharf and Kyle Wood from FA and Brayden Bush, Andrew Butler, Jacques Kuno, Kieran Matthis, Garrett Mattimore, Gavin Mattimore and Cameron Talcott from Potsdam.

For the swimmers, Abby Elman is on the First Team for the 400-meter freestyle relay.

Second Team includes Callie Dow, Sheyenne Hays, Elman and Sydnee Carroll for the 200-meter medley relay; Hays for the 100 butterfly; Elman for the 100 freestyle; and Hays, Carroll, Elman and Rowan Mayette for the 400 free style relay.

Olivia Todd from Massena and Kanenishon Arquette from Salmon River was named to the Outstanding Sportsmanship Team.

Academic All-NAC honors went to Massena’s Keely Thompson-Cook, Sydnee Carroll, Danielle Eggleston, Abigail Elman, Grace Favreau, Kimberly Kaye, Hannah Laneuville, and Olivia Todd. Salmon River Academic All-NAC swimmers are Kariwiiostha Dupree and Natasha Mitchell.

Also on the First Team are Isabella Jaskowski, Jayden Ladison, Julia Domena, Bailey King from Canton, 200-meter medley relay; Rachel Boyea from Franklin Academy, 200-meter freestyle; Domena from Canton, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle; Jaskowski from Canton, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke; Sophia Silver from Canton, 100 free; Emily Lantry from St. Lawrence Central, 500 freestyle; Canton’s Jaskowski, Silver, Emily Wentworth and Mary Chisholm for the 200-meter freestyle relay; Domena, Silver, Chisholm and Sierra Cline from Canton for the 400 freestyle relay.

Others qualifying for Second Team include Emma Kroll from Potsdam, 200 free; Silver from Canton, 200 IM; Wentworth from Canton, 50 free; Claire Knowlton from Gouverneur, 500 free; Becca Penora, Emma Dumas, Boyea and Madison West from FA, 200 free relay; Lantry from SLC, 100 backstroke; and Ladison from Canton 100 breaststroke.

Also on the Outstanding Sportsmanship Team are Bailey King (Canton), Alyssa Allen (Edwards-Knox), Meaghan Matthews (Gouverneur), Ashlyn McCann (FA), Hayley Snodgrass (Ogdensburg), Emma Kroll (Potsdam) and Madee Derouchie (SLC).
