The Akwesasne Holiday Helpers invites you to the Annual Akwesasne Holiday Helpers Holiday Basket Drive is this Friday December 9th, which will be located at the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department Station #1, Hogansburg, Akwesasne. This event is the tell-all sign of how we pull together as a community for one another. Our fellow community members, children and elders are recipients of each and every penny raised. Please come out and be a Holiday Helper.
The families and elders benefiting from this community support initiative are from both the northern and southern portion of Akwesasne. “We are asking for the community’s support to make this event a success. Our families and elders labor to make ends meet in this struggling economy. We are pulling together to assist our families with a warm meal and a few little gifts for the children and elders for the holiday season,” the committee announced.
A full announcement of donations and a financial report will be published for the public at the end of the year’s fundraising efforts.
There will be many different opportunities being held throughout the day for everyone to support this worthy cause:
• $5 Breakfast – Pancakes, eggs, potatoes, etc. Dine in at the station plus deliveries will be available for orders of three or more starting at 8am
• $10 Lunch – lasagna dinner with all the fixings starting at 11:30am till all is sold – dine in or deliveries available for order of three or more
• Raffle Tickets will be sold and monetary donations accepted
• Roger Mitchell – DJ – Moment of Silence in memory of TJ Jackson who donated his time to this event for many, many years
• Mohawk Auction with a lot of great baskets and arts/crafts
• Jail-n-Bail Fundraiser – the Akwesasne Holiday Helpers are still looking for volunteers for this event
• $10 Sponsorship Cards
• Plus, anyone can donate basket items: food, toys or a gift for a senior
So please mark your calendars! December 9th is this Friday!
The Akwesasne Holiday Helpers will be distributing the basket on the following days:
December 14 –12:00pm to 8:00pm – Kawehnoke Fire Station (Cornwall Island)
Former IGA – Hogansburg, Akwesasne:
December 15 – West End of Akwesasne Residents 10:00am to 7:00pm
December 16 – East End of Akwesasne Residents – 10:00am to 7:00pm
Deliveries for homebound community members within Akwesasne – must be indicated on application.
