A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE – On Tuesday, Kentenhkó:wa/November 22, 2016 the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Office of the Family Advocate began distributing 30 Thanksgiving food baskets to families they have helped during the past year. The Family Advocate assists families in specific situations that do not otherwise meet the criteria for services offered by other tribal programs; such as a crisis, trauma, hardship, or an emergency situation. Overseen by the Community and Family Services Division, the baskets will enable families to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal and were made possible through the efforts of several tribal programs: including Maintenance, Food Distribution, and the Three Sisters Program. A special "Niawen:kowa/Thank you very much" to Bill Arquette and Adam Bigtree (Maintenance); Ida Montour, Darlene Dilcox and Luanne Johnson (Three Sisters); Sharon Thompson and Lucy Barnes (Food Distribution), and Chantelle Beeson (Acting-Family Advocate) for helping to bring joy to the lives of 30 Akwesasne families during the holiday season.
