A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Sunday November 13th, Project Good Mind hosted a 5K Walk/Run at Generations Park, Tewatahita Walking Trail to include the community in National Native Youth Health and Wellness Day. This day of celebration includes ten thousand youth across the country and involves around one hundred communities. All this week students were asked to pre-register for the walk in their school classrooms, and registration could also be done upon arrival. Once participants completed their walk/run, they were able to snack on fruit, granola bars, and received a water bottle. A door prize was donated by one of their sponsors that participants could enter to win as well. Afterwards participants could also compete in an obstacle course, set up by Alisha King, courtesy of Iakwa'shatste Fitness Program on Cornwall Island. Before leaving, everyone was asked to trace their hand print for a banner in honor of living a healthy lifestyle. Project Good Mind would like to thank Iakwa'shatste Fitness Program, Twinleaf, Pathfinders Consulting, Three Feathers Cafe, Dr. Danielle Dubuc, Community Health Department - MCA, Gardline Photography, Hilltop Rentals, Salmon River Girls Lacrosse Team, and Akwesasne Child and Family Services - MCA for sponsoring this event.
Project Good Mind's goal is to establish peace, pride, and unity for all communities by sharing cultural values. By using these tools, they hope to promote solidarity, and preserve culture amongst not only our community, but all humanity.
