A Voice from the Eastern Door
Last weekend Tsi Snaihne Recreation held their annual Christmas Enchantment event. This four day event began on November 10th with a meal for the Elders in the community. They were served corn soup and biscuits, and afterward they were able to preview the decorative trees. Five pickles were hidden amongst the tree displays and if found they were given a chance to win $10 in free tickets. The meal was sponsored by Indian Time Newspaper.
On Friday, November 11th, school students got to view the tree display and were treated to a snack sponsored by the Akwesasne Partnership Fund. The rest of the weekend the community could come and view the trees, and enter the draw to take home one of the beautiful displays. There were also $500 in door prizes that could be entered to win as well. Some other activities that could be partaken in were the "No parents allowed" Secret Santa Shop, Mohawk Auction Benefit for Tsi Snaihne, Kanatakon School, and Tsi Snaihne Recreation, a quilt raffle, local craft vendors, concession stands, and a memorial tree benefit for the St. Regis Church. There was also a collection of non-perishable goods for the Food Pantry. Anyone who donated a food item was entered to win one of three Visa Gift Cards.
This years Christmas Enchantment included more than 50 trees, and had an amazing turn out. Make sure not to miss it next year!
