Broomball Season Starts with Wins for Ice Pigs and Chiefs

The Chiefs had a pair of back-to-back games, which turned into back-to-back shutouts last Sunday at the Massena Arena. In their first game of the doubleheader they handed the Norwood Legion a 3-0 loss.

Derek Hopps, Matt Thompson and Travis Thompson scored in that win.

In the Chiefs second game immediately afterward, they turned a 6-0 first period lead into a 9-0 rout of Clarkson.

Ryan Prairie and Matt Thompson scored two each. Jake Lazore and Willie Bero scored one each.

Hopps scored once, but was credited with two. He shot at the open Clarkson net and hit the post, which bounced off a Clarkson player who knocked it into his own net, and Hopps got credit.

The Chiefs dominated this game so much that at the beginning of the second period Travis Thompson finished a big check against a Clarkson player. Only problem was this is a non-contact league. Thompson was given a game misconduct and five minutes for roughing. The Chiefs goaltender sat in the penalty box for those five and they allowed Clarkson to get only three shots at the empty net.

Clarkson then had their turn for a doubleheader after the Chiefs left the ice and next they met the Ice Pigs. This game ended in a shutout for the Akwesasne club 2-0.

Jarett Jacobs and Dwight Bero did the scoring and Evan Cree recorded the shutout. The two Akwesasne rivals don't meet each other until mid-December and all games are played at the Massena Arena.
