A Voice from the Eastern Door
1934 - Former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt came through this area on a train to formally open the bridge of his namesake, the Roosevelt International Bridge which crossed the St. Lawrence River to Cornwall, Ontario. He stopped at the former hamlet called NYANDO (New York and Ottawa) which referred to the railroad line that ran through there. It was later renamed after him, Rooseveltown, New York.
