A Voice from the Eastern Door
October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. There are more dogs in need of homes than ever before. Adopting a dog is huge responsibility and one that you should not make in haste. If you aren't sure about adopting a dog, there are so many other things that you can do to help shelter dogs. You can volunteer at your local shelter. There are so many different things that shelters need help with. Some people can walk the dogs and play with the dogs, it is so important for shelter animals to socialize with people. This helps them become more adoptable and also helps them deal with their life in the shelter. Are you web savvy? If so, you can volunteer your time and take pictures of the animals at the shelter and post to social media sites, with permission of the shelter of course. This helps bring awareness to the dogs in need of homes. Are you good at organizing? Taking the time to organize offices is a huge help to a shelter.
The list is endless when it comes to volunteering and helping your local shelter. Many fundraising events are in need of volunteers during the event. So, if you care for animals take the initiative to contact a shelter and let them know you can help. They will appreciate it and so will the animals! So #AdoptDontShop and spread the word!
