Varsity Shamrock girls’ soccer team ties Massena 4-4
Massena was first on the scoreboard just four minutes into the first half when Novaleigh Lagrow finished off a play started by Kyrsten Stone. The Shamrocks rallied back to score the next two goals when Nidia Dearmayero found the back of the net off an assist from Jadie Burns at the 22:08 mark. Ten minutes later Dearmayero capitalized off a pass from Shye Chubb to put the Shamrocks up 2-1. Massena answered back with only 38 seconds left in the first half when Sophia Post beat the goalie to knot up the game, 2-2 with the assist going to Madeleine Mailhot.
In the second half, Salmon River roared out on the field scoring in the first 1:37 minutes when Jill Benedict finished off a drop pass from Dearmayero about ten yards from the goal to once again take the lead, 3-2. Less than five minutes later, Dearmayero tacked on the fourth goal for the Shamrocks with Benedict nicely setting her up. Massena wasn’t about to give up and rallied to score at the 11:57 mark with an unassisted goal by Lagrow. Massena pulled even when Kelly Southwick scored on a penalty kick from a handball with 2:59 left on the clock and sent the game into overtime.
Lauren Martin turned aside nine of the shots she faced working the Salmon crease while Mikenna Merry had seven saves for Massena.
SRC-0, FA-2
On Thursday, September 29, at Salmon River, the visiting Huskies scored early when Hayley Lewis scored seven minutes into the game. Adrianna Perez made it 2-0 at the 28 mark in the second half.
Lauren Martin turned aside seven shots that she faced for the Shamrocks while Victoria Hanna posted three saves for the shut out.
Cross Country
The Salmon River boys and girls led the running field as they swept the tri meet over Potsdam Central and Brushton-Moira on their home course.
The Salmon River boys defeated Potsdam 15-48 and Brushton-Moira 15-50 while Potsdam defeated Brushton-Moira 15-50, B-M ran two incomplete teams. The Salmon boys claimed the first five top spots with Tyler Shorette leading the 3.1 mile course in a time of 18:28. Colin Benedict claimed second place in 19:49 followed by Avante Pickett (20:02), Sose George (20:07), and Morgan Phelix (20:34). Potsdam’s Michael Amell took sixth place while Carter Benedict, Talon Phillips and Andrew Chubb came in seventh, eighth and ninth respectively for Salmon River. Brushton’s Paul Machabee rounded out the top 10.
The Shamrock girls also had an awesome run as they defeated Potsdam 21-37 and Brushton-Moira 15-50. Potsdam also defeated an incomplete Brushton-Moira team, 15-50.
Salmon’s Ali Hart was the overall winner with a time of 22:27 with Potsdam’s Violet Dean close on her heels in a time of 22:38. Tiffany Conners took third with 24:43, Camryn Buckshot (4th, 25:24), Shannon Ryan (6th, 27:39), Colonie Gray (7th, 28:12), and Macy David (8th, 28:38) to complete the top ten.
Girls Volleyball
SRC-0, Massena-3
Massena improved its NAC East Division record 5-0 with a 3-0 sweep over host Salmon River with scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-18.
Tatum LaFrance led Massena with a record setting 23 service points, 10 of which were aces and added eight assists. Alyssa Eubank (7 kills) and Mckenzee Lazore (4 kills) added 10 points each while Jenna Tarbell and Tianna Back played tough defense with 11 digs apiece. Brittany Condon served up seven service points and nine digs. Gaby Durant contributed six kills and two blocks.
Avery Benedict anchored the Shamrock effort with three points, two aces, two attacks and 40 sets. Teammate Fawn Jacobs added three points with two aces, one kill and 16 digs while Taylin Davis fashioned 3 points (2 aces, 12 attacks, 1 kill), Rylie Gray ended with 12 digs, Tyana Benedict posted one point, one kill and five attacks. Taylor Showen contributed six service digs for Salmon River.
Boys soccer
Salmon-1, FA- 2
The first half was a seesaw battle between the visiting Huskies and the Shamrocks that ended in a scoreless tie. The Shamrocks broke that tie five minutes into the second half when Mackenzie Lazore fired a shot over the head of the Malone goalie, Ethan Dumas, with the assist going to Dillon Spinner.
The Huskies rallied back late in the half to even up the score when Joey Brown launched the ball into the top corner of the net. Guthrie Schumacher scored a late goal for the Malone 2-1 victory.
Devin Snyder handled the eight shots he faced, while Dumas posted two saves for the win.
Salmon-0, Massena-2
Massena scored two goals in the second half to overcome a tough and persistent Shamrock effort; despite a lack of subs on the bench.
James Farbotnik opened up the scoring for Massena, assisted by Logan Sharlow at the 16:36 mark. A late in goal, with 1:20 left in NAC regulation time, was earned by Jack Loran when he finished off a play set up by Lorenzo Tosoni.
Devin Snyder stopped eight Massena shots for the Shamrocks while Massena turned aside seven shots.
