Akwesasne Library and Cultural Center Celebrates 45th Anniversary

On Thursday, September 22, 2016 the Akwesasne Library and Cultural Center celebrated 45 years of service to Akwesasne and surrounding communities. The public was invited to an open house at the Cultural Center beginning at 11:30am. Traditional Arts vendors were set up on the front lawn and there was free admission to the museum. At the evening reception, welcoming remarks were given by the Board of Directors President, Irving Papineau. Glory Cole, Center Director, and Sue Ellen Herne, Museum Program Coordinator, also shared information about the programs and services available and the importance the Center is to the community.

Visitors stopped by all day to tour the library and museum and the Sweetgrass Giftshop, which features various handmade crafts by local artisans.

The Akwesasne Library and Museum staff and Board of Directors would like to thank the community for the opportunity to serve the public and for the continued support provided for the Library and Museum over the past 45 years.
