A Voice from the Eastern Door
University of Buffalo wrestling redshirt-freshman heavyweight Nolan Terrance represented Team Canada in the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships in Macon, France a couple of weeks ago. Terrance competed in the 120 kilogram weight class in the Greco-Roman tournament.
Terrance faced off against eventual runner-up Osman Yildirim of Turkey in the qualifying round and lost a tough bout 9-0. Luckily, Terrance was pulled into the repechage round and earned a second match on the day.
Terrance faced off against Edgar Khachatryan of Armenia and lost 8-0, ending his run in the tournament. Khachatryan would be the eventual bronze medalist in the 120 kg division.
While a 0-2 performance isn't ideal, Terrance did face off against two of the best wrestlers in his division from nations that are typically strong on the international wrestling scene.
The trip to France capped a stellar offseason of competition for Terrance. He started with a championship win in the Canadian Junior/Senior Championships back in March, followed by a trip to Venezuela in June to compete in the Junior Pan-American Championships.
Our family would like to say Thank you to Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation, CKON Radio, Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and Mohawk Council of Akwesasne for your support this past summer including everyone who donated to one of our fundraisers!
