A Voice from the Eastern Door

Gibson Brothers Headlining Kaneb's "Picking in the Orchard 2"

This Sunday, August 28, 2016, Kaneb Orchards will once again throw a grand opening bash, "Picking in the Orchard 2," for the 2016 season. And like last year, the event will feature the Gibson Brothers, a multi-award winning bluegrass duo. The event will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm at Kaneb Orchards in Massena.

There will be food by the Kaneb Orchards Ciderhouse, food vendors including Grub Tub Concessions and Italian Affair Pizza, wine and cider tastings, and of course, some fantastic live music. The music starts at 10:00am with The Gathering and Busco Bandits opening for the Gibson Brothers.

The Gibson Brothers are special here because their roots are in the North Country. Brothers Leigh and Eric Gibson grew up in Ellenburg Depot and attended SUNY Plattsburgh, where, at the 2015 commencement ceremony, they received honorary degrees. The Gibson Brothers have won countless awards for their dozen albums and are nominated for a few IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Awards for 2016. They are up for Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year and Mandolin Player of the Year (Jesse Brock). They have already won several IBMA Awards over the years.

The Gibson Borthers aren't the only thing at the event that has won awards. Kaneb Orchard's St. Lawrence Hard Cider has won Best Craft Cider of the year, twice, as well as other awards. This event will be free for the community, so stop in at Kanebs this Sunday, located just off Route 37 at 182 Highland Road, Massena, and enjoy some award winning music and cider.
