A Voice from the Eastern Door

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

The Advisory Council and staff of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Office for the Aging invite you to attend one of two planned public hearing sessions. The purpose of the public hearings is to get input from seniors, caregivers and community members about our service plans for 2017.

The Advisory Council is a group of concerned senior citizens, service providers and others who meet bi-monthly to review the programs and services of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Office for the Aging. The public hearing is held to learn from local elders what current needs exist within the community and what issues are important to them.

The first public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Seskehkó:wa/September 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A second session will take place on Sunday, Seskehkó:wa/September 18th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Both sessions will be held at the Tsi Tetewatatkens Seniors Center located at 29 Business Park Rd., behind the Tribal Police Station. A light meal will follow both sessions. Please RSVP for the meal by calling (518) 358-2963.

We are completing needs assessments for tribal elders aged 60 years and older. The needs assessment is part of our funding requirements and the results will be used to apply for grants and additional funds. The survey takes about 15 minutes and staff is available to assist with its completion. If you would like to complete a survey, please stop in to the Seniors Center or call for more information. Surveys will be available at the public hearing.

If you are unable to attend the public hearing in person, we still want to hear from you. You can provide comments by:

• Mailing your written comments to Lora Lee La France, Director, SRMT Office for the Aging, 412 State Route 37, Akwesasne, NY 13655

• Calling the center at (518) 358-2963 to have a staff person assist you

• Emailing the Director at [email protected]
