The first phases of the removal of the Hogansburg Dam are underway. A community meeting on the removal of the dam was held on Thursday, August 4 at the SRMT. Tony David was on hand to review the process of the removal and to answer any questions from the community. David reviewed the construction schedule, riverbank stabilization and sediment transport and ice modeling. The construction schedule includes; Mobilization July 5, Coffer Dam July 18, Phase 1 August 3, Phase 2 August 22, Bio-Stabilization September 15, Rip-rap September 15, and project completion by November. As well, removal methods, community restoration goals, post removal sediment, and Atlantic salmon stocking methods were discussed.
Community members are reminded this is a construction area and precaution should be taken while viewing the removal. Many areas are hardhat and steel toe boot areas. Work hours are from 7am to 6pm. Monday to Friday.
