The 2015-16 school year came to a close last Thursday at the Akwesasne Mohawk School with their Graduation ceremony.
Specials guests who offered congratulatory words and encouragement were Akwesasne Mohawk Board of Education Director Donna Lahache and Mohawk Council of Akwesasne District Chief and Educational Portfolio holder Ryan Jacobs.
AMS Principal Lynn McCarthy also addressed the students in saying she has come to know each and every one of them. She said the school gave the students a boost and it was up to them to finish the job.
"We have given each of you the necessary tools to get the job done, you can still steer yourself anyway you want," said McCarthy.
Chief Jacobs said they have a hard road ahead of them in high school but believes they can make it. "As you enter high school you have more independence as students, you have the resources to be a success, the community is counting on you to be successful," said Jacobs.
