A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Onake II Corporation was re-established in 2015. We have taken on the task to organize the affairs of the Tsionkwanatiio Heritage Site. After an environmental and physical assessment of the building, it is our duty and unfortunate position to inform the community that due to the amount of black mold, lead paint and rot, we cannot safely rent the facility out to the community. We are currently working with the SRMT Environment Program to properly secure the property.
Tsionkwanatiio is a community site that we all use for community events, summer camps, farming, ceremony, canoeing, and making maple syrup. We would like to inform Akwesasne that you can still use the grounds but cannot enter the buildings, due to health and safety concerns. Any community organizations who would like to use the grounds, must obtain permission from Onake II Board.
We have also set up a GoFundMe in order to properly secure the building, maintain the grounds, as well as pay an electric bill debt which was accrued from the small building structure in the last 8 years. Please assist us in doing so, by contributing to http://www.gofundme.com/tsionkwanatiio
