Association of Senior Citizens Hosts Spring Celebration

On May 20th the Association of Senior Citizens sponsored by the Office for the Aging hosted a Spring Celebration acknowledging the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during May which has been deemed Older American's Month.

Susan Schrader, Director of the Association, hosted a delicious buffet luncheon which was held this year at the Lake Side Dining Room at Paul Smith's College. Dignitaries including Congresswoman Elise Stefanik representing New York 21st District, along with Janet Dupree, Assemblywoman from the 114th District, addressed the seniors and praised them for their service to our county. Legislator Billy Jones presented a resolution signed by the legislators to Mary Ellen Keith for her dedication and commitment and many years of service as a volunteer.

Pat Manchester, President of the Association, presented a plaque to Paulette Dear for her 29 years of service to the ASCFC and the Malone Adult Center. Pat also spoke on the milestone that the ASCFC just celebrated their 42 years of incorporation. Becky Preve, Director of the Office for the Aging, addressed the seniors on their contributions to Franklin County.

Every senior club and organization serving the seniors of Franklin County was present including the Lake Clear Seniors, The 55 Franklin Club, the Malone Golden Age, The St. Regis Mohawk Seniors and two of our outstanding organizations Mercy Care for the Adirondacks and the Community Friendship Volunteers. Many informational booths were set up by various organizations dealing with senior issues.

Many dignitaries were on hand to honor our seniors Elise Stefanik; Janet Dupree; the Franklin County Legislators; Donna Kissane, County Manager; Kevin Mulverhill, Franklin County Sheriff; and Kip Cassavaw, County Clerk.

Susan thanked the many people who helped make this event so special, "Our guest speakers, Pat Manchester and the Board of Directors, our Association Coordinators, our cooks and our volunteers, the Office for the Aging, my office staff and the Rec Elder committee of Sandy Premo, Ona Rushford and Peg Bouyea for all of their hard work making this event so successful."
