LOVEDAY A. McDONALD

AKWESASNE- Mrs. Loveday A. McDonald, 79, of 2125 River Road, Sugarbush Island, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, June 3, 2016 at Cornwall Community hospital, where she was admitted on Thursday.

Loveday was born August 1, 1936 in Oka, Quebec, daughter of the late Paul and Mary Jacobs Gabriel. She attended school in Oka. Loveday married Daniel M. McDonald on February 23, 1957 in Oka with Rev. Michael Mitchell officiating. He predeceased her on April 29, 2014.

Loveday was a housekeeper for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and also assisted as a home health aide privately for many years. In her younger years she worked at Tru-Stitch as a sewer, as well as at the Lacrosse factory netting lacrosse sticks. She was a member of the Akwesasne Housing Authority, and Senior Citizens of Akwesasne. Also a former member of the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department women's auxiliary.

Loveday was well known in Akwesasne as the "donut lady" for her amazing donuts. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, bingo, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her grandchildren. Loveday also enjoyed the company of her great friend for over 50 years, Beatrice Bero.

She is survived by her children, Sheila and Glenn Hill; Daniel Jr. "Alex" and Laura McDonald; Betty and Alex Roundpoint; and one chosen son, Jimmy and Nicole McDonald, all of Akwesasne; her grandchildren, Colleen and William; Melissa and Glenn; Glenn and Carrie; Taylor; Louie John; Leighann and Stevie; Danielle and Francis; Jessica and Scott; and Whitney; her 16 great-grandchildren, her two brothers Donald Gabriel of Cornwall Island and Francis Jacobs of Oka.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Loveday was predeceased by two great grandchildren Kyleigh McDonald on June 7, 2008, Tyrone McDonald on May 8, 2009, and by several siblings.

Friends called at her home from Monday until Wednesday. A Celebration of her life was held with Rev. Lisa Jock officiating. Burial followed at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Saint Regis, Quebec.
