The St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Commissioner presented a Scholarship for Citizenship. This award is for a graduating senior who has worked hard to achieve academic excellence as well as being a positive influence with peers and in the community. School Resource Officer, Eileen Cook, presented the award to Jenna French.
Title VII Award of Excellence is given to a student who shows excellence in the Kanien'keha:ka language and culture. Katsitsionni Fox presented the award to Sierra George.
Jacob Bero is the Class of 2106 Salutatorian and won many awards during the SRCS Awards Banquet. He is the son of Gary and Melissa Bero. Some of his awards were the NYS Comptroller Achievement Award, US Air Force Scholar/Athlete of the Year and the John and Ann Jock Memorial Scholarship.
Kearin Adams was the recipient of the Hawley-Miller Native American Scholarship for attending elementary school at the St. Regis Mohawk School and had high academic achievement.
Zach Smith is the Class of 2016 Valedictorian. He is the son of Bill and Katy Smith. Zach was the winner of several awards including the Physical Education Student Leadership Award, NYS Comptroller Achievement Award, SRCS Senior/Athlete Award and the Senior Art Award.
Juniors Colin Benedict, Kariwiiostha Dupree and Kamryn Ransom received the University of Albany's Multicultural High School Achievers Award. Absent - Tekaritha George.
The Hogansburg American Legion Post #1479 awarded seniors Jacob Bero and Mackenzie Phelix scholarships at the SRCS Awards Banquet.
Juniors Shye Chubb and Colin Benedict received the RIT Computing Medal and Scholarship Award. It is a Scholarship worth $12,000 ($3,000 per year) should they be accepted and enrolled at RIT upon high school graduation.
Junior Kamryn Ransom received the Frederick Douglass & Susan B. Anthony Award. The Scholarship is worth $40,000 ( $10,00 per year) should she be accepted and enroll in the University of Rochester upon graduation.

On Wednesday, June 1, 2016, Salmon River High School held its annual Academic Awards Ceremony. This year there was a change in the format of the ceremony that seemed to delight many parents and students.
The traditional ceremony that was usually held in the high school auditorium was changed to the cafeteria were a turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, was served to over 300 students, parents and family members.
"The awards banquet was very well attended," reported Joe Binion, High School Dean of Students. "It was great to be able to honor the achievements of our students and inspire younger students to do the same."
Mr. Binion came up with the banquet idea from when he was in high school.
"When I was in high school we had a head table and in order to sit there you needed to have been on high honor roll throughout the year." This year the Salmon River fifteen high honor students were able to sit at a head table along with their parents or two guests. Many parents and younger siblings commented that they want to sit at the head table when their time comes.
The feedback was very positive. The parents enjoyed the dinner and the guest speaker, Mrs. Carol Rossi-Fries, from SUNY Potsdam. She spoke to the students about finding passion in everything they do. She left them with the quote, "If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life."
"It was a great night," commented one parent, "a meal, a guest speaker and awards, all in under two hours."
"We want to be able to continue with the banquet to honor student academic accomplishments," said Mr. Binion. "It's good to celebrate student achievements outside of athletics."
