A Voice from the Eastern Door
Last week several local students who are looking for a future in carpentry took their first big step as they completed a one year program at Iohahi:io Adult Ed.
Their achievements were recognized in a ceremony last week at the Snye facility. But the speakers not only recognized their hard work but also the dedication of their families to making sure they made it to class everyday – from the babysitters to the bus drivers.
Several local organizations played a part in the success like the Mohawk Board of Education, Area Management Board, Department of Economic Development for funding and Community Support.
A big part was getting the students some hands-on experience and local contractors took in the students for placement. They were Brian Thomas of Ultimate Construction, Barry Thomas, Clinton Jacobs of Jacobs Construction and Robert Hall Sr.
In addition, the class went on a field trip to Gilchrist Homes in Norwood to have a look at large scale production.
Teachers and special guests addressed the students and wished them the very best in their future and their congratulations in getting this far.
The staff of Iohahi:io were also congratulated for their help in getting the students over this milestone from the teachers to the administration.
There were two more groups that recently completed their course – Human Resources and Computer Networking.
