A Voice from the Eastern Door

Akwesasronon Play in National Aboriginal Hockey Championships

The 2016 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships took place from May 2nd-7th in Mississauga, ON. Akwesasronon played on the Eastern Door and the North team. The boy's team had three players from Akwesasne, Jarred Jackson, Skwii Tarbell and Kobe Skidders, while girl's team members included KC Herne, Bailey Thomas, Amber Thomas and Iakonhnhiio Cook.

For the girls, Game one was a 4-2 win over Atlantic. Amber Thomas had two goals and

KC Herne had one goal and two assists. In Game two, EDN lost to Alberta 4-1 but KC Herne was the Player of the Game scoring the lone goal. In Game three, EDN lost to Saskatchewan 6-2 but Bailey Thomas was the Player of the Game. Game four was a loss to Manitoba and KC Herne and Bailey Thomas had assists. Game five was a loss to Alberta 3-0, with KC Herne getting player of the game.

For the boy's Kobe Skidders picked up one assist in an early tournament loss and complete game stats were not available before press time.
