Update on Christie’s Music and Memory program: With the donation of iPods from Christie’s family last July, the job of collecting CDs and loading the mp3 files into a computer was urgent. A call out for student/volunteers went out. To date, a total of 500++ CDs have been downloaded onto a laptop; over 250 volunteers spent on the task; $200 spent on monthly internet fees and iTunes.
Resident interviews resulted in a range of multi-cultures and musical tastes including: religious; powwow; traditional; Country (Classics, Outlaws); easy listening (Sinatra, Crosby, Dean, Doris Day, etc.) Francois/German/Polish folk; and pop from across the decades. Trips to Value Village always resulted in good finds. Do you remember Mitch Miller and his sing-a-longs on TV? Only an Activity Director would be thrilled to find an anniversary CD of his sing-a-longs at Value Village!
Music is an important activity program at Tsiionkwanonhso:te for sensory stimulation, especially for lower functioning individuals. At care conferences, family members remember the favorite music/musicians their Mom listened to, and make an important contribution to their loved ones’ care plan.
Family members contribute to making Our Home attractive all year round, and summer months present the best opportunity for projects. Relatives of residents have made planting for their loved one a yearly project around birthdays and anniversaries with flower boxes and bird feeders going up outside their loved one’s window.
To brighten our Residents’ environment, donations of hanging baskets, birdfeeders, and garden ‘shepherd’s hooks’ are welcome!
If you have ‘gently used’ or any materials to donate, please call Teresa (Activity Director) at 613.932.1409 during regular business hours.
