A Voice from the Eastern Door
She:kon/Hello,
The MCA Compliance Department would like to remind the community of the importance of keeping animals securely restrained on their property, especially those houses located near the district schools. The Compliance Department has a Zero Tolerance policy on all loose animals near or on the property of the Tsi Snaihne School, Kana:takon School, Kawehno:ke School, and all district day-care facilities. This policy is necessary to ensure the safety and well being of the students, staff and faculty. The temperament of these animals does not matter, nor does the size of the animal because the general public does not know how the animal will react; therefore the Compliance Department will respond to every call accordingly.
The community of Akwesasne adheres to the By-Law: the Emergency Interim Dog Control Regulation, which includes a leash law. All dogs must be secured on their owner’s property by rope, cable, fencing, underground fencing system, or any other system or device which keeps them on their property. {This is a short brief synopsis of the Emergency Interim Dog Control Regulation. For a more in depth version please call the office in order to get a copy.} Any animal found loose on public property will be picked up by the Compliance Department. If the Compliance Department cannot locate the owner, then the animal will then be transported to the kennel for a 4-day holding term. Compliance will then post the animal on our Facebook page, CKON radio, and the MCA email server in order to help notify the owner.
The Compliance Department kindly reminds residents of Kana:takon to please keep their animals secured so that the day-care children can continue their walks without worry. We also ask that if you see a loose animal near a school or daycare to please call the Compliance Department immediately.
Our goal is to protect the children and members of Akwesasne from any unnecessary harm.
