Boy's Lacrosse

Massena boy's varsity lacrosse had their early undefeated streak broken by Salmon River.

The team now stands at a 4-1 overall record for the season.

In the April 21 match-up, Massena fell behind Salmon 7-3 at the half and never recovered for a 13-7 final score.

Kyran Sunday got Massena out to an early lead in the first quarter, converting a pass from Nick Henrie. Salmon answered with five goals in a row.

Salmon pulled ahead 10-4 in the third quarter, followed by the teams swapping goals in the fourth quarter.

Kendrick Angus and Nick Henrie (four assists) lead Massena's offense. Montana Pierce and Jacob Sheets each scored a goal with an assist. Sunday scored once. Tyler Armstrong made 13 saves.

Skkylar Thomas lead Salmon River with three goals and two assists. Alan Jacobs scored four times. Konner Sunday (two assists) and Norman King each scored twice. Raienteres Oakes and Rowisonkies Barnes each scored once. Blaze Benedict recorded a single assist. Troi Benedict turned aside 15 shots.

In their previous contest, Massena defeated Potsdam 18-9.

The teams traded points through the first half, leaving Massena ahead 7-5 going into the third quarter.

In that stanza, they came out with five goals in a row and never looked back.

Henrie led Massena with five goals and three assists. Sunday logged four goals and two assists. Kainen Francis tallied three goals and two assists, Angus three goals and one assist. Pierce and Hunter Pyke each scored a goal and an assist. JP Chauvin scored a solo goal. Jacob Sheets notched dual helpers. Mason Panuelo manned the net for 15 saves.

Keenan O'Gorman led Potsdam with three goals and two assists. Hunter Ploof scored three times. Billy Bergan scored twice and assisted two plays. Kaleb Rathbun scored once. Sam Woods and Noah Thomas assisted single plays. Major McKinley and Jacob Crary split netminding detail for 11 saves.

Girl's Lacrosse

Massena girl's varsity lacrosse annihilated their competition in a recent bout with the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils 15-2.

Cayla Hinkley topped off the Massena scoresheet with six goals. Abbey LaClair scored twice and assisted three plays. Devin Kelly scored once with four assists. Abigail Johnson scored two goals. Blayke Gibson and Maddi Dillabough each scored once. Gisele Todd made two saves.

Lexi Kennedy scored twice for OFA. Marissa Foster notched seven saves.

Baseball

The Massena varsity baseball squadron came out victorious in two of their last three contests.

On Thursday, April 21, Massena bested Carthage 9-8.

Massena trailed 6-1 after the first two innings, but coughed up an eight-run rally in the bottom of the fifth to eke out a win.

Connor McGraw spent the first five and one-third innings on the mound for his first win, striking out three, walking one and giving up 12 hits. Nick McKeel relieved him, fanning all five batsmen he faced.

Tyler Hike pitched 4.2 innings for Carthage, striking out three, walking six and earning the loss. Bailey James relieved him.

For Massena, James Donnelly, with a double, and Cody Peets each had two hits, two RBIs and one run scored. Ethan Marcello batted a triple with one RBI and one run scored. McKeel knock an RBI double with one run.

For Carthage, David Vincent had four hits, including a triple, with three RBIs and one run. James Uhlinger had three singles and three runs.

The previous evening, Massena fell to Ogdensburg Free Academy 7-4.

Nate Bressard covered the mound for 6.3 innings for Massena, taking a loss with three earned runs, a strikeout, five walks and six hits allowed. Bailey LaBarge closed the game, giving up a run and striking out two.

Cody Peets went 3-4 at the plate with a double and a run. Donnelly had two hits. Cedric Maurer had a double and a run. Ethan Marcello logged a single and a run. McKeel had an RBI double.

On Tuesday, April 19, Massena beat Salmon River 12-6. Massena jumped to 10-0 following seven runs in the top of the second inning, followed by a five-run rally from Salmon in the bottom of the second.

McKeel threw for the win.

Ben Kelly went the first three innings for Salmon, earning a loss. Hunter Ghostlaw relieved him, allowing one run in the last four innings.

Donnelly led Massena with two triples. LaBarge batted a double.

Matthew Harvey and David Roundpoint each hit doubles for Salmon.

Softball

Massena softball traded rallies with Salmon River on Tuesday, April 19, fighting their way to a 14-7 win.

Massena worked up to a 5-1 lead through the first three innings, but fell behind when SRC scored five runs from six hits in the fourth inning. Massena came back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, then outscored their competition 5-1 in the fifth.

Amber Thomas took the mound in the fourth inning, getting the final out, then holding Salmon to one run over the next 3.3 innings, earning a win. Thomas finished the contest with nine strikeouts and four hits.

Reaghan Peets, who started for Massena, fanned three, walked one and gave up nine hits.

Brittany Brooks pitched for Salmon River, tallying five strikouts, four walks and giving up 12 hits.

At the bat, Thomas went 2-2 with a double and one run. Kelly Southwick went 2-5 for Massena with a double, a triple and three runs. Brittany Streeter singled and scored once. Sydnee Carroll had a single, an RBI and one run scored. Alyssa Eubank had one single, driving in Carroll for what held up as the game-winning run. Shaunessy LaClair batted a double.

Brooks led Salmon River, going 4-4 at the plate with two doubles and two runs. Lauren Martin hit two doubles. Tiffany Connors went 2-4 with a double.
