Twin Leaf Old-Timers Win Malone League Basketball Championship

Malone, NY - The Akwesasne/Twin Leaf team defeated CJ Trucking by a score of 57-53 to win the Malone Adult League Seniors Division Championship in a close contest this past Saturday, March 19th. The victory completed a very successful 2015-2016 winter season for the Twin Leaf Team as they finished with 13 wins and only 3 losses. The Seniors division is made up of eight teams populated by players aged 35 yrs. and older.

The Championship game was close throughout as CJ Trucking controlled the backboards with their superior size, but the Twin Leaf team was able to push the pace and find transition buckets to keep pace. Brent Herne and Chucky Joyner led the way in a team effort. Joyner finished with 19 pts and 8 rbs. Herne delivered a key all-around performance with 14pts, 5 rbs, 5 stls and 5 asts. Mike Russell followed with 10 pts, 5rbs and great defensive activity with 2 stls and many deflections. Anthony Tillman was also very active defensively with 4 stls, 4 rbs, 4 asts and 4 pts. Tsiorasa Barreiro finished with 4 pts, 5 rbs, 3 stls and 2 asts. Team Captain Randy Hart came off the bench to hit a big three-point shot with 6:32 remaining in the second half that gave Twin Leaf the lead. The team would hold that lead for the remainder of the game.

Mark Martin also hit a three-point shot for Twin Leaf and provided defensive tenacity that inspired his team. Co-Captain Rudy Hart contributed quality minutes on defense and facilitating the offence.

CJ Trucking was led by Clay Densha with 22pts and Justin Todd with 12 pts 7 rbs and 9 asts.

Unable to make the game but providing big contributions during the 2015-2016 season for Twin Leaf were Chip George, Dave Benedict, Bruce Kelly and Mark Gibson. Shawn Martin missed the season recovering from an injury and served as team General Manager.
