A Voice from the Eastern Door
A pair of untimely penalties cost the Ice Pigs the game and the Chiefs take their four game winning streak - as well as first place overall - into the playoffs.
Last weekend in Massena the Ice Pigs' Colby Bradford netted one with a slap shot but the Chiefs jumped on a pair of Ice Pigs' penalties to score :30 seconds apart.
Derek Hopps got his goal and Duddy Lyons scored half a minute later.
Late in the period Hopps had a big chance for his second as he fired into the open Ice Pigs net. Goalie Harley Chubb made a big sprawling save and that rebound came to the Chiefs' Giles Adams for their third goal.
Two minutes into the second period Dwight Bero of the Ice Pigs knocked the ball to the ice with his glove and tapped it in to make it 3-2.
The Chiefs pulled ahead 4-2 as Bo Adams took a blast from the faceoff circle and the Ice Pigs' goalie made the stop but the Chiefs' Giles Adams got the rebound and scored.
Hopps of the Chiefs scored his second of the game with 6:00 left and they held on for the win.
This was the final regular season game for both clubs with the playoffs starting this Friday.
