Senior Zach Smith is the son of Bill and Katie Smith. He has been playing basketball for 13 years beginning with the North Franklin Program. This is Zach's third year on the Varsity Squad. Zach will be entering into the Physician Assistant Program at Daemen College in the fall.
Senior Antoine Domino is the grandson of LeeVonder Domino. He began playing basketball in third grade with the North Franklin Program and has been playing Varsity for three years. He will be attending college in the fall, but his plans are undetermined at this time.
Senior Alan Jacobs is the son of Lindsey Jacobs. This was Alan's first year on the Boys Varsity Basketball Team. He is undecided in his plans for the fall.
The 2015-16 Salmon River Varsity Cheerleading Team.
Senior Travis Thompson is the son of Joann and Stanley Thompson. Travis has played basketball for two years and this was his first year on the varsity Squad. He is undecided in his future plans.
Senior Jordan Bigness is the son of Clay and Sheri Bigness. He has been on the Varsity team for two and a half years. Jordan has been playing basketball since he was in third grade. He is planning on attending SUNY Canton in the fall, studying Electrical Maintenance and Repair.
Senior Rasentonkwa Tarbell is the son of Corey and Barb Tarbell. This is his first year playing basketball for Salmon River. Rasentonkwa will be attending Algonquin College in the fall for HVAC.
Senior Brittany Brooks has been playing basketball for 12 years. She has played Salmon River varsity for four years and has been the Captain and highest scorer for the past two years. Brittany is the daughter of Jeff and Julie Brooks. She plans on attending Daeman or Sage College for Physical Therapy in the fall.
Senior Shayla Bender is the daughter of Jennifer Bender. She has been on the SRCS Varsity Cheerleading Squad for four years. Shayla has been accepted to SUNY Canton for Funeral Services and Administration. Senior Cheyenne Boardway is the daughter of Shannon and Scott Boardway and she has been on the Varsity Cheering squad for two years. Cheyenne is undecided at this time as to her future plans. Senior Diondra Dyer is the daughter of Danielle Dyer. She has been on the Varsity Cheering Squad for three years. Diondra will be attending North Country Community College in the fall for Nursing.
The Salmon River boys and girls varsity basketball teams honored their seniors last week during the last home game of the regular season.
The Shamrock boys hosted Ogdensburg on Tuesday, February 2nd, but fell to the Blue Devils, 31-63.
The Blue Devils ran out to an early 25-5 lead by the end of the first quarter and were ahead 39-15 by half time before closing out the game with a 63-31win.
Kurt Leroux led the Shamrocks with 10 points followed by seniors Jordan Bigness with eight and Travis Thompson with four. Senior Antoine Domino, Ben Kelly and Myles Jacobs each contributed three points to the Shamrock effort.
Cale Sargent netted six three-pointers to fashion a game high 20 points for OFA. Peyton Lalone added 16 points while Connor Badlam tossed through 11. Anthoni Pope had six, Will Kroeger put through four, Allen Fisher had two and Matt Rector chipped in one.
Salmon River plays its last regular season game on Friday at Potsdam.
The graduating seniors who were honored are Antoine Domino, Allen Jacobs, Zach Smith, Rasentonkwa Tarbell and Travis Tarbell. There are also three senior cheerleaders that were recognized, Shayla Bender, Cheyenne Boardway and Diondra Dyer.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Shamrocks celebrated the hard work and dedication of five seniors: Kearin Adams, Makayla Bigtree, Brittany Brooks, Brittany George and Kera Ghostlaw.
The last game of the regular season the Lady Shamrocks hosted Potsdam where the Lady Sandstoners worked their way to a close 17-11 game heading into the locker room.
Potsdam held on to the lead to end with a 37-29 win. Hunter Wilson and Alexis Peterson led the Lady Sandstoners with 10 points apiece followed by Katie Cary with seven. Kayla Phillips and Mara Vaccaro each added five points.
Senior Brittany Brooks led all scorers with 13 points while Lauren Martin fired through nine. Senior Kera Ghostlaw netted nine points while Tiffany Connors chipped in two for the Lady Shamrocks.
