JAMES J. TERRANCE, SR.

AKWESASNE – Mr. James Jacob Terrance, Sr., 71, of 64 McGee Road, Akwesasne, unexpectedly passed away early Friday morning, February 5, 2016 in the emergency room at Massena Memorial Hospital, after suffering a heart attack at home.

Jimmy was born April 26, 1944 in Malone, the son of the late Eugene E. and Margaret Jacobs Terrance, and attended Salmon River Central Schools. On September 4, 1976, he married Sandra Mary Montour at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Francis Arsenault celebrating.

Jimmy was an ironworker and welder with Local #440 for many years until having to retire due to a disability. He was a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group and was an avid reader. He truly enjoyed watching sports, especially football, hockey, and the Syracuse Orangemen Basketball. Jimmy also enjoyed playing pool, playing Solitaire, and radio bingo with his brother, Gilbert and sisters, Agnes and Esther.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Sandra; his children, Andrea Boots of Akwesasne; James Terrance, Jr. and his companion, Tara Lazore of Akwesasne; Russell Louis Terrance and his companion, Grace Miola, of Akwesasne; his grandchildren, Sakoierons Swamp and his wife, Carmalita; Lori Ann, Hayden Jae, and Teaghan Grace; and his great grandchildren, Raienteres, Rawennes, Teeweenes.

He is also survived by his sisters, Agnes, Margaret "Maggie", Linda, and Mary Ann Terrance, all of Akwesasne and his brother, Gilbert Terrance and his companion, Esther Jock, of Akwesasne; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Russell L. Terrance on October 14, 1973; Paul C. Terrance on February 22, 1996; and Eugene E. Terrance, Jr. on July 24, 2007; and his sisters, Carol Ann Herne on August 8, 2007 and Elizabeth Terrance on November 16, 2008.

Friends called at his home Saturday until the time of the funeral, which was held at the home on Monday. Cremation followed.
