SRCS Boys Hockey

Early goals gave the Shamrocks fast starts and two wins last week as they faced off against two NAC rivals, OFA and FA.

Salmon River 4, FA 0

Tanner Tarbell got the Shamrocks on the scoreboard just 18 seconds into the first stanza when he finished off a play set up by Otto Thomas and Cameron Cartier. This would be the only goal that the Shamrocks would need but they weren't done.

Bryton Burns struck early in the second period when he beat the FA goalie to up the score 2-0. Dillion St. Ann-Spinner and Thomas earned the assist. Just 22 seconds later Cartier fired through the third goal assisted by Tarbell.

Lawrence Jackson closed out the scoring, in the third, with a goal assisted by Tehakwirakarenrons McDonald at the 9:40 mark.

John Jacobs earned the shutout for the Shamrocks by turning aside 15 shots while Joey Brown stopped 41 for the Huskies.

"It was a hard earned win where we played three full periods" commented SRCS coach Tim Cook. "We used the points well and getting the early goal definitely helped".

Salmon River 6, OFA 2

The Shamrocks went out fast and furious at the Golden Dome, in Ogdensburg, to work their way to a 4-1 lead by the end of the first period.

Cameron Cartier scored the first goal 41 seconds into the game, assisted by Tanner Tarbell and Bryton Burns. Two minutes later Bryton Burns made it 2-0 with the help of Otto Thomas and Cartier. Less than 10 seconds later Tyler Sisto netted the third Shamrock goal. OFA got on the scoreboard at the 7:43 mark when Garret Bell scored assisted by Jackson Troiano. Tanner Tarbell beat the OFA goalie in the last minute of the first after converting off a pass by Dylan Wylie.

The Shamrocks and the Blue Devils swapped goals in the second period when at the 7:09 mark when Jared Barr scored from Broadie Woods and Eddie Swan to up the score 2-4. Less than a minute later Burns scored his second goal for the Shamrocks.

Tarbell scored the only goal early in the third with the assist going to Thomas and Burns.

John Jacobs(23 saves) and Troi Benedict (5 saves) shared goaltending duties for the Shamrocks while Adam Bouchey (11 saves) and Jacob Bell (7 saves) worked the OFA net.

"We wanted this game badly tonight, said SRCS coach Tim Cook, twenty three guys gave a great effort from start to finish".

Girls Hockey

St. Lawrence 4, Salmon River 1

Last Friday at the Tom Cavanaugh Arena the Lady Shamrocks hosted St. Lawrence Central. The Lady Larrries relayed the momentum of scoring the first two goals of the game into a 4-1 win.

Olivia Hunter scored the only goal in the first period assisted by Abby Lyon. Lyon scored the eventual winning goal in the second period when she finished off a play set up by Riley Barton and Kerrigan Rondeau.

Olivia Moulton, assisted by senior Mallory Johnson, put the Lady Shamrocks on the board at the 12:12 mark in the third to cut the deficit to one. A minute later SLC answered back when Barton converted off a pass by Rondeau then Lyon pushed the score to 4-1 with 7 minutes left in regulation time. Sam Bailey earned the assist.

Carli Cartier handled 18 shots backstopping the Salmon River effort while Eliza Sullivan made 14 saves for the SLC win.

It was senior night and the girls varsity team and fans celebrated senior Mallory Johnson's last home game of the season. She has dedicated her time and talent to the SRCS Varsity girls hockey team for the past four years. She will be missed.

Boys Basketball

Salmon River 54, Gouverneur 32

The Shamrocks started off the game fast and furious as they worked their way to an early 19-7 first quarter lead and never looked back as they ran away with a 54-32 win.

Ben Kelly fired through 18 points to spark the winning offense. Jordan Bigness struck for another 12 followed by Travis Thompson with nine. Antoine Domino netted six while Cody Pickering finished with four, Zach Smith had three and Kurt Leroux chipped in two.

Andrew LaPlant and Brock Miller fired through nine points apiece for the Wildcats followed by Dan Sweet and Bradon Fenlong with six each. Connor Fenlong rounded out the scoring with two points.
