A Voice from the Eastern Door
December 21, 2015 will be a night to be talked about for a while at Salmon River as the Shamrocks gave the home crowd a dramatic and prideful victory over the undefeated Massena Red Raiders in double overtime, 70-67.
The Red Raiders were coming off a seven game winning streak since the beginning of their season but fell behind, 21-31 at halftime. Massena came to life in the fourth quarter to outscore the Shamrocks 19-8 and turn its third quarter 11 point deficit into a 54-54 tie at the end of regulation time to force overtime.
"It was a great high school basketball game", said Salmon River Coach Shawn Martin. "Massena caught fire in the fourth quarter to take us to overtime and it was a battle after that point. Our defense was great tonight and I knew it would take us to a win, if they believed and kept a cool head. It was fun to coach, fun to watch and I think every game in the central will be like that this year".
Senior Antoine Domino led the Shamrocks with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Ben Kelly tallied 20 points, pulled down nine balls while Myles Jacobs fired through four three pointers for 12 points. Jordan Bigness followed with seven points and Zach Smith threw in two beyond the three-point arc. Travis Thompson chipped in two and Kurt Leroux added a free throw.
Massena's Dante Viskovich scored a game high 35 points, including four three pointers while Bailey Terry added 18. Nicholas McKeel netted seven and Jacob Goyco had three. Jacob Sheets and James Donnelly rounded out the Massena scoring with two points apiece.
