A Voice from the Eastern Door

A great day 1 at the Madlax National Club Championship in Fort Myers, FL. Even though we had a record of 1-2, we played three awesome games. Game 1 was a close battle, lost 13-12. Game 2 was another exciting game that went to overtime and then Braveheart, but we lost 9-8 in another great game. Game 3 was just as exciting as the first two games. It was tied at half, and still tied after three quarters at 5-5. Then we went ahead by 3 in the 4th and held on, winning 9-6.
We played against some of the best club teams on the East Coast and competed with them. It was a great Day 1 for Akwesasne Attack. We had many fans drive in from vacations in Orlando and Tampa to watch our youth and we are grateful for the support. We had a great team BBQ at the hotel pool last night, some players keep feeding the hotel alligators at the pond (not a good idea). We have one game today at 10:00, then many players will be headed to the beach. Tonight we have players headed to Miami to watch the Montreal Canadiens vs. Florida Panthers. Niawen:kowa to all of our sponsors and supporters.
On Day 2 our team had one game. We won 10-7 in another good game, which put us in a three-way tie for 3rd. Then we had the entire day free. Many took in some beach time or a golf tournament hosted by the lacrosse tournament organizers. Later some went to the mini-putt course, some went to the movies, and some drove two hours to Miami for the Canadiens/Panthers game.
Day 3 we had a morning game, but lost 8-1. That put us in the 5th place game, which we won 11-1. Our boys ended the tournament with lots of laughs and a fun game. All had a great experience, many are already planning next year's adventure.
Niawen:kowa to our team sponsors SRMT Community Partnership, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, Key Bank, Seacomm Federal Credit Union, CKON, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, Akwesasne Convenience Store Association, Mohawk International Raceway, East End Convenience Store, Bear's Den, Speedway Convenience, Grand Mohawk Inn, T-LAX, Jonathan Lazore, and many others. Lastly, niawen to Akwesasne/Brasher Falls and surrounding communities who contributed to our chicken BBQ, Smart TV raffle, bottle drive, online auction, and Super Bowl squares. Our team is heading home with great memories and a positive experience representing Akwesasne Attack.
