Antoine "Teiokwirathe" Delormier, 67, of 21 Angus Delormier Road, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Cornwall Community Hospital on Tuesday evening, November 24, 2015 where he was admitted on November 1, 2015 as he had been in failing health since September 22, 2015.
Antoine was born May 11, 1948 on Cornwall Island, son of the late Angus and Minnie (Thompson) Delormier. He attended school on Cornwall Island and St. Lawrence High School in Cornwall.
Out of high school Antoine went to work in Syracuse as a construction laborer. He was then employed as a welder for Laplante Welding in Long Sault. He was an iron worker with Local #440 for many years. Antoine also served as a volunteer fireman with the HAVFD station #2. He ran his own carpentry business and also taught carpentry classes at Iohahiio. He served as a Kawehnoke District Chief and was voted in for three consecutive terms.
He was an avid fisherman and race fan spending countless hours on the river and at the track. Hobbies included: basket making, hunting, golfing, watching lacrosse and hockey. Antoine was a member of the St. Regis Catholic Church and the Akwesasne Death Benefits. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and his beloved dog Max.
Antoine is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his children, Antoine Jr.; Lisa and her companion Nelson; Adam; David (Gooch) and his companion Julie; stepdaughter Leah; 14 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; his brothers; Leo (Lillian); Amos (Gail); Frank; Donald (Tamara); Charlie (Pascale); his sisters; Josephine Gabriel of Kanesatake; Rosemarie White (Dave); Laura Morris; Darlene; Sonia; and many nieces and nephews.
Antoine was godfather to Craig Delormier, Wesley "Bam" Leaf, Wendy McDonald/Thompson, Rahsontanostha Delormier, and Rolland Morris. Antoine was predeceased by one daughter Krystal Francis; two brothers, Peter and Joseph; and one sister Linda.
Friends called at his home from 7pm Saturday until time of the funeral. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the St. Regis Catholic Church on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11am.
Memorial donations may be made in Antoine's memory to the St. Regis Mission Church.
Arrangements were with the Lahaie and Sullivan Funeral Home Cornwall.
