A Voice from the Eastern Door

THANK YOU

The 2015 Christmas Enchantment took place this past weekend starting with our Elders Day on Thursday, November 12th. They were treated to corn soup, yeast rolls and dessert. Thanks to Indian Time for sponsoring the meal. Afterwards, they strolled through the beautiful display of trees; we had close to 200 Elders for lunch. Christmas Enchantment opened to the public from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Then on Friday students from area schools were treated to a viewing. We saw approximately 500 students. They were sent back to school with snacks. Unfortunately Santa could not be with us this weekend, he was much too busy; maybe next year he will be able to join us. Christmas Enchantment opened to the public once again at 4:00 p.m. and closed at 8:00 p.m. Saturday hours were 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This year we had a record number of trees with a total of 47. All were special in their own way. We would like to thank all the families, businesses and organizations who donated a tree. It amazes us to see what great ideas people come up with, making our show more spectacular every year.

Our Mohawk Auction was busy throughout the weekend. We thank all who played and helped support the Kanatakon, Tsi Snaihne Schools and Snye Recreation. Thanks to our quilters who make the quilts we raffle each year. This year we had two quilts to raffle one was a queen size and the other was a king size.

Last year’s funds were used to offset our annual events and also we purchased two new stoves and a hood for our kitchen. The cost of this project was $20,000.00 and they arrived last week. They were put to the test this past weekend.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who come out and helped out with our annual fundraiser. We have volunteers who do the lighting, put up the Christmas Trees, run the electrical cords, put up fencing, help decorate trees, wrap, make bows, set up tables, take down tables, sweep, mop floors, take out garbage, put up signs, cook, serve food, sell tickets, work in the parking lot, clean the bathrooms, organize tickets, sell tree tickets, assist with raffle. We have many jobs but we have such an incredible team, everything comes together.

The Memorial Tree to benefit the St. Regis Catholic Church raised a total of $2,135.50 and the community donated a total of 8 truckloads of non-perishable food for the food pantry. Thank you for your generosity!

We had visitors from near and far. We had people from James Bay, Oregon, Florida, Georgia and Maine. It is nice to meet new people and we’re glad they enjoy our event. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and look forward to seeing you all again next year! Look for information on Christmas Enchantment: look for us on Facebook “2015 Christmas Enchantment,” in the New Year it will be “2016 Christmas Enchantment.”

From the Snye Recreation Committee, we wish everyone a Happy and Safe Holiday Season!
