A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Friday October 30th, 2015 the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Criminal Enforcement Unit arrested two Akwesasne men after executing a take-down of an attempted drug- smuggling operation on Cornwall Island. Police noticed suspicious activities in the early morning hours that caused a concern for further investigation and found that two local males were participating in an illicit drug transaction. Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service officers moved in on the activity and arrested both subjects on drug-related charges subject to the (CDSA) Controlled Drug and Substance Act.
The arrest resulted in the seizure of approximately 134 pounds of packaged marihuana with a valued estimate of $469,000 dollars, a GMC pick-up truck, and mixed Canadian and U.S. Currency.
Charged with “Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking” and “Proceeds Obtained by Crime” are Craig A.P. Thompson (29) and Francis M. Jacobs (22) both of Akwesasne. Both subjects were remanded into custody and will re-appear Monday November 2, 2015 for a Bail Hearing at the Cornwall Provincial Court.
