Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors Win Eagle Award

Monday, November 2, 2015, Akwesasne, NY - Boys & Girls Clubs of America's National Headquarters based in Atlanta, Georgia honored the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club for achieving the Bronze Level of the League of EAGLES Award Program, last week at the Northeast Regions Conference in Princeton, NJ. This award is a key element of the national organization's Leading Edge: 2020 Board Transformation Strategy. The award recognizes local affiliate organizations for achieving 85% of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which defines the strength of the organization's board of directors in meeting and exceeding a set of standards which provide an outcome based assessment of the board's responsibilities and impact on the organization. This awards program measures six key elements of a "strong board of directors" which include 75% of individual board members achieving the following:

Engagement. Engaged and attend board meetings

Ask. Ask others for face-to-face for funding

Give. Give back by making a personal financial gift

Lead. Lead the organization to achieving strategic initiatives

Evaluate. Evaluate their individual board performance based on a personal plan

Serve. Serving actively on committees or task forces of the organization

Reaching this milestone is a significant accomplishment of which only 10% or less of the 1,000 member organizations of the 160 year old national youth development organization met in 2014 and is a testimony of the dedication and commitment of the organization's board and executive leadership to serving the youth of our community at the highest level. Myra Lafrance, Assistant Director, received the award during the special ceremony at the Northeastern Leadership Conference on Thursday, October 29, 2015. The 2014 volunteer board was comprised of: Julia Back Skidders, President; Brendan White, Vice President; Micaelee Horn, Secretary; Stacy Skidders, Treasurer; Dale White, Voting; PJ Herne, Voting; Theresa Cole, Voting; PJ Burns, Voting; Robert White, Voting.

Maytag Dependable Leader & ABGC Board President Julia Back Skidders, "Our Board has worked very hard to reach this point and for our hard work to be recognized by Boys & Girls Club of America is humbling. I thank all my fellow board members and ABGC administrative staff for all your hard work! May we always work towards having a positive place for kids and teens!"

Vice President Brendan White Added, "I'm very proud of the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club and to my fellow board members on earning this prestigious award. It's a testament to the dedication and commitment each board member has to provide opportunities and positive futures for our community's youth."

The Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club has been at the forefront of youth development for over 14 years, serving youth aged 6-18years old, from in and around the Akwesasne community. In 2014 the Club served over 300 registered members and served 12,000 hot meals. Since opening its doors in 2001 the Club has served over 3,000 members.
