A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Friday, the Akwesasne Coalition for Community Empowerment hosted the 2nd annual Trunk or Treat. The former IGA parking lot was filled with elaborately decorated trunks in what the coalition calls a safe alternative to door to door trick or treating.
The event went from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and despite the frigid temperatures it was a terrific turnout with hundreds coming out for some treats.
There were almost 30 cars for trick or treaters to visit. Participants included: Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services Outreach Department, SRMT Tribal Police, Akwesasne Housing Authority, Akwesasne Child and Family Services, Community Health Nurses, Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services A/CDP Prevention Program, Maternal and Child Health Program, Early Childhood Development Program, CAA Management, Wholistic Health and Wellness Program, Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club, Partridge House, Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services Dental, SRMT Department of Social Services, SRMT Intensive Preventive Program, Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services Mental Health, SRMT Family Support, Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services WIC/Nutrition, 7 Dancers Coalition, SRMT Let's Get Healthy Program, Indian Time Newspaper, Office for the Aging/Seniors, SRMT Child Support, Swamps Performance, Tribal Gaming Commission, CKON Radio, SRMT Administration and Wideband Networks.
