MCHS Football
The Massena Red Raiders lost a non-league match to Peru Central 34-20 on Friday, Oct. 23.
Montana Pierce ran in the first Massena touchdown to spark the Raiders offense in the first quarter.
Trailing 7-0 with the ball on their opponents’ five yard line, Pierce went in motion and grabbed a handoff, scampering into the endzone through the middle.
Leading up to Pierce’s TD, Peru quarterback Jordan Guay connected with Dan Bridgeman for a 21-yard touchdown pass, followed by a successful PAT.
In the second quarter, Guay threw to Troy Lawyer for a 74-yard touchdown pass.
After another Peru touchdown to open the third quarter, Massena running back Cedric Maurer took a pass from Maddox Merry and ran the ball into the endzone from 11 yards out.
Touchdowns from a respective 33-yard pass a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter sealed the Raiders’ fate.
In the interim, Maurer took the ball and bolted 44 yards for Massena’s last points of the game.
Massena will play their last regular season contest at Malone on Saturday, Oct. 31. After a bye week, they will contend for the Section 10 Class A crown.
MCHS Boys Soccer
The Massena Red Raiders fell 4-1 to the Ogdensburg Free Academy Blue Devils on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Turner Thomas made four saves.
Nick McKeel scored Massena’s lone goal in the first half.
OFA’s Peyton Lalonde scored three goals and assisted Connor Badlam, who scored the team’s fourth. Their netminder, Raphael LeBlanc, made four saves.
Massena was to have contended for the Section 10 Class A title on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
MCHS Lady Raiders Swim Team
The Massena Lady Raiders pulled off a 49-45 victory against the host Franklin Academy Huskies on Friday, Oct. 23.
Keely Thompson-Cook was among two contingents that brought in first-place relay finishes.
She, along with Sydnee Caroll, Abby Elman and Laura Dowdy won the 200-meter freestyle relay in 1:55:59. By their powers combined, Thompson-Cook, Sheyenne Hays, Carroll and Elman claimed the 400-meter freestyle relay in 4:22.11.
Hays also won the 200-meter individual medley in 2:42.91 and the 100-meter butterfly in 1:12.37. Elman took the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:20.91.
The Lady Raiders were to have finished their regular season on Oct. 27 against the host Canton Golden Bears.
