A Voice from the Eastern Door
This past spring, Eric Marczak donated his time and materials to bring a flute-making class to Akwesasne. He held the class at the Akwesasne Museum and performed for free at an open-mic event for ‘Walking with our Sisters’ at Tahy’s Fine Art and Designs. The makings of one flute were left over from the class and he offered to complete it and use it as a fundraiser for the Akwesasne Museum. Eric sold raffle tickets on the flute all Summer at the festivals that he attends – including the Strawberry Festival at Kanatsiohareke and many others. This fall, Eric sent the flute back to Akwesasne. More tickets were sold and the winner was drawn at the Silent Auction held for the museum on October 15th. The winner was Sue Rancourt of Hadley, NY. $436 was raised on the raffle.
Eric wrote the following note to the museum:
She:kon, Great to hear and glad to help. The flute could not have gone to a more deserving person. I know Sue Rancourt as a friend. She is Abenaki, a veteran, a Sundancer, and spends a lot of her time and resources to help Male and Female veterans. She is not shy about sharing her story of violent abuse while serving in the armed forces. She truly is “Walking With Our Sisters.” Stay in touch and thank you for helping make all this possible.
Many blessings to all those good people at Akwesasne. Onen, Eric
